Aspull 1 v Ripon Reds 2
The last few games have been a real struggle for the lads as we have only been getting 11 players.
So to find out that we were only going to have 9 players meant a few frantic calls and thanks to Will and Lewis we had 11 again.
We started the game superbly and produced wave after wave of attacks, we also played some very good football.
Within a few minutes we had a lead after good play in the middle by Will and Charlie, the ball ended up at charlies feet , he beat one then hit a shot that looped over the keeper.
We went further ahead when Charlie let fly again and after it hit the inside of the post in it went.
The lads got caught out a few times by pushing up and after one such attack they found themselves on the back foot chasing back.
The ball was played through the defence and one on one their player shot and with Corey diving to the floor(in what looked like slow motion) the ball ended up in the net.
Half time 2-1 up.
The second half was a completely different kettle of fish.
From the first whistle we were pushed back as Aspull tried everything to get the scores level.
At one one point they had 3 corners in a row. Good defence and some excellent keeping led to us seeing the game out 2-1.
Some good displays from the lads. Lewis was solid at left back(like he was earlier in season) Will did really well in midfield, defence was good, wing play in first half was good.
Charlie took both goals well, but for me the man of the match was Corey, with some good keeping and he commanded his area well.
Well done Corey.
We would like to thank all the parents who have been to watch this season as the support for the lads is appreciated.
Thanks also to anyone that has helped with equipment this season, makes my job that bit easier on match-days.
Thanks to David Bailey aka Bill for the pics during the season. Makes the report look better.
But most of all thanks to all the players for their hard work in getting us to the position in the league.
We may finish 3rd if Chorley get beat by Longridge in their next game, otherwise 4th.
My thanks go to Karl for his coaching and support through the year, its all his hard work that makes them play better.
I am away next weekend so will be in touch to see if Karl wants to do training.
Also I have been asked about a friendly in a few weeks. I will be in touch on that also.
We look forward to seeing you all at the presentation evening, details to follow.
Thanks
Darren and Karl.

Chorley Wanderers 0 v Ripon Reds 1
Sorry folks, no photo’s today as Bill was having his moustache trimmed I think.
What an absolutely great day for playing football in as well.
Brilliant sunshine and blue skies, just great.
Well I thought beforehand that the game was going to be a battle.
We had just the eleven players for various reasons so it was tough from the start.
I didn’t expect it to be the battle it was though.
From the first whistle Chorley were in our faces, crashing tackles and little off the ball niggles.
In the first half we tried to get the ball down and play it but the surface was more akin to a mine field than a football pitch.
There were different lines on the pitch at various points also which can sometimes be confusing.
The lads tried to get the ball but were being buffeted off it by a physical Chorley.
We did manage to get the ball through the defence and Dec was one on one but just scuffed the shot and the goalie saved comfortably.
To be fair to the lads they stood their ground really well against a side that seemed to want to just bully their way through the game.
We were giving them a good run for their money when the ball was played through to Dec after some good work in midfield by Charlie C I think.
Dec raced towards goal then unleashed a, well more scuffed it again, but this time it rolled under the outstretched arms of the goalie into the net.
More tackles flew in and Danny C got into a tangle with their number 7, Danny ended up on the floor and reacted not to pleasingly for the Refs liking and found himself being booked for use of some bad language.
Half time we went in one up.
Second half started much the same as first half .
The only threat they seemed to have was to kick us off the park or use the long throw tactic.
We dealt with everything they could throw at us , and that included some bodies and elbows.
It got very scrappy in the second half and we were rewarded for our efforts by the ref booking three of their players. Henry at left back seemed to be getting more than most and on more than two occasions I saw him get back heeled in the shin.
I think it stems from the Chorley management this aggression as they could play a bit of football.
But the lads dug in and kept their discipline well.
As we only had eleven players we could not freshen up the team and that was tough on the lads.
They all did well in this game, even James B was heard to mutter a few words to the opponents.
This was a battle won in intense heat and physical situation, each of the lads should be proud of that display, as the management team I know we are.
A fantastic result.
Man of the match went to Henry, who was battered about the field and got up and went back looking for more.
Well done Henry
And well done to all the lads.
Training is on Friday 6 til 7.30
It is no longer at Corpus Christie.
I will let you all know during the week as to the venue.
Thanks
Darren and Karl

Ripon Reds 4 v Aspull Juniors 1
For a change the game was played in weather that was more accustomed to summer, warm and dry.
The day started bad as I was working and did not get to Moor Park till twenty minutes before kick off.
Then as we had got things set up we were told we had the wrong pitch, but after a quick call to the park keeper we were on the correct pitch.
We were limited today with players and will be till the end of the season as a few players have left.
On to the game, we started brightly and had a few good chances that could have been finished with a bit more thought.
We went behind in the first half after the ball was played through to the striker and Corey came to confidently claim the ball only to let the ball squirt out from under his body and to the feet of the striker, he controlled the ball and stroked the ball towards the empty net, good finish really but disappointing for our lads and Corey.
We pressed from the restart and within no time we were level after great work on the right by Danny R, he got the ball out wide, cut inside and on towards the touchline, he beat one player then cut it across the six yard box, their defender missed it and it rolled to Declan who finished from close range.
We continued to press forward and after a corner was played in the ball ended up going to the edge of the box.
The incoming James got to the ball first and struck a shot that was destined for the right side of the goal only to be deflected off the line by a stray hand.
Penalty awarded but to my suprise no sending off.
Charlie C dispatched the penalty really well, the keeper got a hand to it but was placed well and we were two one up at half time.
We tried to get the lads to start playing better football in the second half, told them where we thought the areas that were weak were.
I think we exploited these areas but could not really capitalise on them.
We were in control for most of the second half and went further ahead when a ball played through our defence was cleared by Danny C who smashed it high and far into their half, it bounced and landed at the feet of Charlie C who finished into the bottom corner.
The game was not the best in terms of passing play but was interupted by some scrappy play and some tackling that was not of the standard we expected.
Henry was involved in one tackle that ended up with there player being taken off, it was a late challenge but nothing more than that, a card was asked for by the opposition manager.
Henry did not intend to injur the player and was asking of his welfare for the remainder of the match.
A few tackles were made and If I am honest they did warrant a free kick but the Ref let them go, this caused frustration between the two teams and this spilled over when Charlie C went in for a challenge on a defender only to find himself involved in a scuffle.
Not great play from both teams but we still managed to get further in front when Charlie C ran onto a ball on the left and went past a player, bearing down on goal he unselfishly crossed into the six yard area to find an unmarked Will N with a tap in.
Game won but players diving into challenges meant we had to tell the whole team to calm down as we had done the hard work and did not need to resort to these sort of tackles.
We ended up winning 4-1 and we now face the same opposition next week away.
Man of the match went to Danny R after some great runs and a great ball in from corner to get two one lead, he caused the defence loads of problems with his constant running.
Well done Danny.
Thanks to all those who helped with equipment.
Thanks to Bill for photo’s.
Training on Friday 6 til 7.30 at Corpus Christi.
Thanks Darren and Karl
Penwortham St Teresa’s 2 v Ripon Reds 1
After the downpour the previous night I thought the chances of the game going ahead were slim.

Surprisingly the pitch was not full of water. It was a bit soft under foot but not in a bad way at all.
Enough of the weather report, on to the game.
First half was a joy to watch, the football that was played by us was very good. We pressed Penny St Teresa into their half for most of it.
Charlie C hit the crossbar with a great effort, Danny R was causing problems down the right and James D was doing well in the middle. Luke was steady on the left also.
We took the lead after some great work in the middle by James D, he managed to get the ball to Charlie C who waited and played a superb through ball into the path of Dec.
Dec controlled the ball and went past one player, then another and then dispatched a low shot into the bottom corner.
Great teamwork and a good finish. Within a minute we were pegged back to one all.
It came from our throw in, we got the ball to our defender who played it back to Corey, Corey took a touch then tried to play it to Lewis on the other side of the pitch.
As he went to play it he slipped a little and scuffed the ball, as it rolled a few yards away from him their player managed to get to it and roll it into the net.
Unlucky on Corey, a small mistake from someone who has more often than not saved us in the past.
So half time and one all. The second half started in much the same fashion. We kept pressing them back and had some good play again.
Then about half way into the half they managed to get the ball through our unusually weak defence and with a mis hit the ball looped over Corey into the empty net. The play was going to and fro after that and we seemed to lose concentration a bit, then all hell broke loose.
There were shouts of ‘ouch’ , ‘arrgh’, ‘my legs’, ‘my ears’. ‘I cant see’. And that was from the touchline as the hail stones sent from the heavens crashed down on us all.
The lads to be fair got on with the game and still played the ball round(I think they did anyway I could not see a blooming thing)
It lasted for a good few minutes and just as quickly as it arrived it disappeared and the sun came out as if spring had been round for ages.
Cant wait for next week when the snow arrives, no I’m not joking, weather report for next week is bad.
Can someone please tell whoever makes the weather that the seasons are all up the creak at the minute, we would love some sunshine please.
Anyway back to the football, As the second half wore on Penny St Teresa’s attacked more and more.
We started getting stretched and pulled out of position regularly, but for some great tackles on the right side we may of been further behind.
Time was running out and we still passed the ball out from the back to try and create something but to no avail. From a footballing front it was pleasing to see and with more of that style we will get back to winning ways.
But it was not to be today.
The man of the match went to someone who has been outstanding in training and did really well today in the middle, some other good displays from a couple of players in other areas but James D deservedly won it today.
Well done James.
Training on Friday 6 til 7.30
Cheers to Bill for photo’s
Thanks Darren and Karl.
Sunday26th February 2012 Ripon Reds 1 Penwortham Town 2
Disaster at training when learnt of a player leaving. Disaster first thing when a couple of players dropped out. Disaster before game when Ref failed to make it on time. Disaster with result of the game. Shall I stop now??? Well the game eventually got going after much deliberation and consulting the rule book after Ref decided to go to retail park on way to game only to get blocked in. We started well with alot of the play. A few mistakes when challenging for the ball and decision making during this time was not to our usual standard. After the loss last week I thought the lads would produce the goods today, unfortunately this was not the case. We seem to be going backwards again. The lads seem to be playing like they have just been put together at half 1 and told to play.

They were quiet today also, training is completely different as we can not keep them quiet. We managed to take the lead after a corner then some good pressurising from Charlie C. He managed to get the ball back and turn to shoot over the keeper from inside the area. Good finish from Charlie. We had hit the post with a great run from Charlie C then he passed it to Danny R who beat the keeper then saw it rebound off the inside of the post and rebounded away to safety. We defended poorly and this was our undoing for the equaliser, A free kick was awarded, wrongly in my opinion. The ball was floated into our half and the defence stopped and let their players run onto the ball to beat the keeper. Second half was not a lot better, we seemed at a loss what to do with the ball and were found out with some good through balls, their right winger was causing all sorts of trouble with some great runs.

The winning goal was a result of another through ball in the centre which caught the defence flatfooted. One on one with the keeper their player shot and Corey produced a great save only to see the ball rebound to one of the Penny Town players who reacted quickest to smash the ball home. Selecting a man of the match was hard but I think it should be Charlie Collier who scored and did work quite hard throughout the game. Well done Charlie.

Ripon Reds 1 v BTR Juniors 2 Can I first start by saying a big thank-you for getting this game on for an 11am start as we were due to kick off at Moor Park at 2pm. Much appreciated to all those who made it to Leyland for the kick off. Unfortunately we had a depleted team due to one thing and another but these things are sent to try us they say. Right, the game was played in brilliant sunshine and a bit of a breeze. We started brightly and played some good football. We also had a scare in the first few minutes as a ball played to the left side was whipped in across the back four to find their striker one on one with our goalie.
Corey stayed tall and made a fantastic save from six yards out. At the other end we had a shot saved in more or less the same circumstances, Dec put through only to be stopped by the big Btr goalie. The Btr goalie had a lot of trouble with the wind in the first half as more often than not his kicks drifted into touch. That is after the ball had come down with snow on. We had a few good shots at goal from Luke in the first half and he played very well also.
The first goal came from an attack down the right side , the ball was run to the byline and as two players went for the ball it appeared and was poked towards goal, Corey stopped as he thought the ball had gone out and it hit his leg and rolled over the line. I could not see if the ball was out nor could the Ref, (apparently it was)
Goal given by the Ref, one down at half time. I actually thought we were the better side though.
Second half and as we had no subs available the lads soldiered on. Again some good football was played but we could not seem to get through the strong Btr defence. We had a few scares when they broke through only to shoot wide on three occasions. Another break we were not so lucky, a bit of a slip or defender caught off balance and the ball broke in the box to be tucked away. Two nil down and playing uphill was going to be tough.
The lads actually seemed to start playing better at this point, we had a few opportunities but were unable to score. Then with a break on the right that started with a good run from James B in defence, the ball was played along the touchline and found its way to Will. He beat his man and raced to the by line, cut it back into the box to find Dec waiting to tap the ball into the net. Good work by the lads. Back in the game we continued to push for an equaliser.
We almost got one too when Reece managed to get free on the left and crossed it into the box only for it to miss ‘Twinkle Toes Durney ‘s’ head and hit his back. So close, but to no avail. All in all a good display but our winning streak had to end sometime. The lads played well and deserved a point in my eyes.
Man of the match was given to a player who stood out from the others in contention by his work ethic during the game, never gave up on a ball. This was Charlie C. Well done Charlie. Training is back at Corpus Christi on Friday 6 til 7.30. Thanks again
Darren and Karl. Sunday 15th Jan 2012 Tarleton White 2 v Ripon Reds 3
Can I just start by wishing you all a Happy New Year. Sorry for the lateness of the post but my fingers have just thawed out. Thanks for all your support on this cold day. Well what can be said about this game today? Firstly it was good to be back playing again, that was until we kicked off. I have come to the conclusion that they all have short term memory loss. 7 weeks without a game and all that they have learnt is forgotten. We did nothing of note in the first half, time after time they played a long ball in and we struggled to deal with it. Two goals conceded from not clearing the ball away.
Half time and two nil down, I feared we were going to end up getting thrashed. At half time a few home truths were told and a system reboot for all of them was needed. Second half was completely different, they took on board what we said to them and took the game to Tarleton. To be honest I think Tarleton were shell shocked all the second half. Our comeback started from a through ball that was chased down by Luke and luckily we were awarded a penalty. I thought at best it was a corner but not my decision. Up stepped Declan who slotted it to the keepers left only for the keeper to make a great save, unfortunately for him it came straight back out to Declan who put it in the net. From that point it was all Ripon, Tarleton could not get out of their half. Wave after wave of attack was rewarded when the ball rebounded out to Twinkle Toes Durney who finished like a seasoned pro into the bottom corner. No blasting it just calmly placed. Chris did not know what to do by the look of him, he got pounced on by most of the team. The third goal started from our defence it was played to Reece who beat one man then played a delightful ball in to the running Declan. Declan took the ball in his stride and entered the penalty area on the left side, the keeper approached and Dec slotted the ball low to the keepers left and the ball started on its way to the goal, it seemed to take an age to get there but it rolled over the line to complete a spirited comeback.
We had a few chances between and after the third goal, Tarleton also had a few good chances but they were thwarted by the dependable defence. And a heart in mouth clearance from Danny C, who managed to clear the crossbar from inside the six yard box. He said he knew what he was doing.(aiming for top corner by the look of it.) A great comeback, not flowing football but gritty determined play and a willingness to win the game. Well done to all the lads for the effort in the second half. Man of the match was awarded to Declan. He worked hard up front and he also got back to help defend. Well done Dec.
Also a little game for you all. Can you spot the ball on the second to last photo. It has not been edited either, classy photo Bill. Also its not there. Thanks to Bill for photo’s. Training Friday and if unavailable for any reason please let either Karl or myself know. Cheers Darren and Karl.
Lancon 0 Ripon Reds 3
Today’s game was played in near darkness as the weather was dull and cold.
We were beaten one nil last time we played these and I think that was our last defeat in the league, way back in September. Since then we have progressed as a team. The defence has become a good partnership and having a good goalie helps all.
The game started very slowly and both teams finding it hard to get a hold of the game, both teams attacked but came to nothing. After 15 min we had some good build up play on the right, Reece passed inside to Charlie C who laid it off to Will R who unleashed a shot into the bottom corner. Lancon tried to attack but were finding it hard to break our defence down. They had a hooked shot that came off the crossbar into Corey’s arms but little else. Ten minutes after we took the lead another good corner in found Declan who volleyed it goal-wards,it took a deflection off a divot and found its way past defenders on the line.

Two nil up at half time and we told the lads to try to play more football rather than not keeping hold of the ball. This was put into practice in the second half by mainly the defence, but a few times in midfield we played one touch football. Lancon rallied a bit during the second half and tried to break us down. Unfortunately for them we have a solid defence line at the moment. The third goal was a ball played in from the right and Dec managed to get on the end of it to head in from close range. A good result on a difficult surface. Well done to all. Man of the match went to Rocky, I mean Will R. Well done Will.

We now find ourselves 3rd in league and have the second best defence in the league. Thanks to Bill for pics. Next week we are at home after a few weeks on our travels. Training on Friday 6 til 7.30. Declan that is 6, not ten past. Cheers Darren and Karl.
